Akihabara Maid Bars and Bishojo Massage Explained

LeLe recently had to go to Tokyo on short notice

We have been meaning to update our guides with new information and the latest trending nightlife news, so we are planning to conduct a survey

While having drinks with friends, I learned that the hottest new thing lately — which I haven't tried yet — is the Akihabara Maid Hostess Bar mentioned above, as well as bishojo massage services.

These two things also caused a stir in Japan~Of course I've experienced both personally~😎😎😎

Let us give you an objective review~ If anyone wants to try or learn more~ You definitely don't want to miss this great guide and introduction~ 😁😁😁

Akihabara Maid Hostess Bar

Starting from the maid cafes that became widely known to the world, and gradually reforming and quietly evolving over the past four to five years, the maid culture ecosystem has gradually become complete~ Maid cafes exclusively for otakus and anime fans have, as it seems, today become maid hostess bars and various imaginative maid-related businesses that everyone can participate in, flourishing in Akihabara 🤯 (It feels a bit old-fashioned~ but let's touch on the topic a little)

This time, the maid hostess bar we experienced was a shop with very good reviews on Google, and my friends and I were all trying a maid hostess bar for the first time. Looking at the results~ I was very satisfied and want to visit regularly (I actually went again the next day 😎), including my veteran Japanese friend (who himself runs a high-end hostess club). He said he felt young again, and both the quality and price offered excellent value for money (the bill was also very clear). However, for friends who don't understand Japanese, this type of shop might be difficult to fully enjoy, as the main source of fun comes from conversation. Beautiful hostesses accompany you while drinking, using simple language to tell stories that trigger your sense of superiority (making you feel like a real gentleman, though the hostesses are probably putting on an act—like looking at you with stars in their eyes while you talk about foreign cuisine or how hard you've worked, etc.). Of course, I also asked them, foreigners are indeed served here, but communication requires translation apps. There are also some precautions, such as not being allowed to touch the hostesses on your own initiative. There have been incidents in the past where foreign guests were asked to leave for not following the rules.

The blogger went to the shop shown in the picture above (click on the image to visit the official website), and it was a coincidence that the two hostesses who served him were exactly the two shown in the photo (the front-facing ones). He can honestly say that they looked just like the photos. This is completely different from soapland or outcall services~ He took a quick look at the shop's beauty as well~ They were all very attractive. If your goal is to find a hostess to have drinks with, chat, and enjoy some lively company, this place is perfect. Compared to traditional hostess clubs, these hostesses are in their early 20s and have less of a worldly air, which is also a notable feature. You can even order grilled rice with egg (omurice) in the shop and draw pictures with them (similar to maid cafes).

The interior decoration of the shop isn't anything special. There's a large bar upon entering. Behind the bar, there are many bottles of alcohol arranged neatly. Walking further inside leads to numerous open-style cubicles. They're all in a girly pink theme~ There's also a KTV system (you can pay to have the hostess sing for you, or sing yourself). Since this is a hostess club, this shop is also categorized as a pleasure establishment. However, the pricing is very transparent. I visited twice and there was no forced consumption at all. So everyone can feel confident when visiting. All prices are clearly displayed.

For male customers, the charge is 2,980 yen for 45 minutes, which includes unlimited drinks. Every 45 minutes, the service will automatically renew. The hostesses in the shop call them angels. You can request a specific hostess to accompany you (1,000 yen). The drinks served to the hostesses are uniformly priced at 1,000 yen per cup (the hostesses drink slowly). I let them drink freely, and they didn't finish four cups all night long. There are many food options. Cute-style pasta, chicken casserole, and such items range from 700 to 1,500 yen. It's worth mentioning that the shop uses the PREMIUM brand for all its beers (a cup at a high-end steakhouse costs 700 yen). This is very considerate, and even if you get drunk, you won't feel unwell—the taste is excellent. This is one of the reasons I'm visiting again. There are beautiful angelic hostesses, great-tasting beer, and emotional value.

Two people went out together for about three 45-minute sets + had drinks with the hostess + had a guardian angel (nomination) + lots of food. When it came to paying the bill, each visit came to only about 25,000 yen.

Some Thoughts

The form of maid hostess clubs is actually the same as regular hostess clubs. So I just happened to visit this one occasionally and found it very honest and innovative, so I recommend it to everyone. This doesn't mean that every maid hostess club is honest (if you end up at a rip-off shop, there's a big chance of getting overcharged). Everyone should judge for themselves. Also, like regular hostess clubs, don't force physical contact against the hostesses' will. Since there's no drinking involved, the gameplay is different. I noticed that becoming a member of the club (after a certain number of visits??) offers walking packages (taking the hostess out for dinner and a walk around the neighborhood). Of course, the hostess might invite you to help boost her performance (I saw very expensive drinks in the shop), which is the fishing strategy. If you want to unlock hidden gameplay options, it's either about spending money or spending time. The more you visit and get familiar with the hostesses, dating them is also possible 😁😁. Or if you spend enough money, the hostess might be moved by your sincerity and financial power, potentially developing into a romance 😎😎😎. Of course, many friends just go there to experience the lively atmosphere, have a drink with an angel, and spend around 10,000 yen per person to enjoy the ambiance. I think this is also excellent. It's better to budget for soapland and other direct-result projects for higher value.

Next, let's talk about bishōjo "refle" massage

(The image below shows the left side featuring a maid hostess bar's signature. In fact, the second floor of this building also appears to be an adult shop. The fourth floor is for bishojo massage services.)

Reflex - Simple Massage

The trick of this business is that it doesn't operate under a adult-entertainment (fūzoku) license. Instead, it runs as a regular massage parlor or with related permits. If you ask the staff, no one will tell you the details behind the scenes. The model has now evolved into various forms including outcall and shop-based services. It's even aiming directly at the outcall style. These are quite common throughout Tokyo’s streets and alleys. I personally saw one on the street in Shinjuku. Wanting to evaluate it, I went in for a visit. Based on my experience, I was not satisfied. It's also unsuitable for tourists. The value for money is poor.

Its specialty is close-range massage with attractive adult hostesses in a small private room. Since it's not a pleasure establishment, if you want something more, it's usually about reading between the lines rather than explicit words. The same applies to how far the experience goes.

When you enter, you'll see a counter inside with some photos and other items to choose from. There's also a menu with various durations. Since this was just an experience, I chose the shortest 30 minutes for 4,000 yen. I thought it was pretty cheap and great value. After paying, I was led to a super small tatami mat private room (similar to the room in the pictures - not one shop but basically the same).

Not long after, a beautiful hostess came in (these hostesses who specialize in this are indeed in their early 20s). Since this is a technical post, we won't discuss looks or appearance. Here, language might be needed. The main theme is that the hostess guides you to choose a package from the menu she brings. For example, hug for 15 seconds at 1500 yen, etc. Knee pillow, anything goes package, and so on and so forth. That booklet had so many items it filled up a whole page. Everything done inside costs money. Your entry fee of 4000 yen can be understood as the venue fee, plus having a hostess come face-to-face with you.

After I chose the "anything goes" package for 4,000 yen + the massage hostess package for 3,000 yen. The beautiful hostess explained the store's contact restrictions to me. As a blogger who is overweight, it was hard for me to turn around in that private room, and I felt a bit short of breath. So in the end, it was basically just chatting with the hostess. If I were a tourist who doesn't speak Japanese, what would happen? We would probably just feel awkward with each other~~~😒🤣🤣

Later I found out that each shop also has a hidden menu. However, I think that for a foreigner who doesn't speak the language, all these stream-of-consciousness elements are just too tiring and the cost is also quite high (I saw a Japanese blogger spend 50,000 yen altogether previously). The value for money is too low. It's better to just take a look at what's here~~ For outcall services, just call for an outcall. For visits to the shop, just choose soapland.

Conclusion

Have a couple of drinks and experience the atmosphere at a maid hostess bar. You can bring a female friend along. It's a good way to experience local culture.

Bishōjo "refle" massage is not suitable for tourists. Overseas students living here can go practice conversation and kill time~
